Palm Beach Public 5th Grade Class Receives Dictionaries from the Kiwanis Club of Flagler Sunrise. Palm Beach Public School Principal Sharon Stevens and 5th grade teacher Victoria Dickerson accept dictionaries donated Wednesday by Kiwanis Club of Flagler Sunrise. Palm Beach Public’s 75 fifth grade students each received their own dictionary. President Brenda Dye and Immediate Past President Steve Eagen made the presentation. Sharon Stevens is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Flagler Sunrise, and this event marked the club’s third annual donation of dictionaries to Palm Beach Public students.
“We are very happy to offer these dictionaries to the school’s 5th graders,” said KFS President Brenda Dye. “We believe it is important for every student to have their own dictionary as they develop their language and reading skills.” Palm Beach Public’s Principle Stevens said “We are very grateful to Kiwanis for their generosity in donating these dictionaries to our 5th grade students.”
The Dictionary Project is a non-profit organization in South Carolina (www.dictionaryproject.org) in that distributes the dictionaries through community service organizations such as Kiwanis. The Kiwanis Club of Flagler Sunrise raised more than $430 during a July fund-raiser to purchase the dictionaries. KFS sponsors Palm Beach Public School as part of its Youth Services commitment. Last month, the Flagler Sunrise club donated school supplies to the students. The club also co-sponsors with the Kiwanis Club of Palm Beach - two programs at the school: BUG (Bringing Up Grades) and K-Kids. BUG is designed to encourage grade school students to improve their grades each grading period. K-Kids is the elementary school level club of Kiwanis International.
