Dedicated to helping our community and the children of the world.

Make a difference. Get involved.

The Kiwanis is a global organization committed to changing the world - one community at a time - one child at a time. Please join us in our commitment to “making a difference”. Our objectives, goals, ideals and vision encompass promoting the adoption and application of higher social, business and professional standards. To provide through this club, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service and to build a better community. To develop by percept and example a more intelligent, aggressive and serviceable citizenship. To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high ideal which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and goodwill. To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life. To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships - “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

The community around you is diverse and complex when viewed from a distance, however when you take the time to boil it down to a closer more intimate level, you see a community made up of people just like you, all striving for a better place to raise their families, grow their businesses, better their neighborhoods and enjoy life. It is at this more intimate and personal level that you make a difference. As a member of the Kiwanis of Flagler Sunrise, you become part of a greater whole - a part of something larger than yourself and in this manner - we can all make a positive change to the world around us. We are active in charitable work, giving to those in need in our community as well as supporting global, wide reaching charities that help the children of the world have hope and substance. We can make a difference - together. The Kiwanis are dedicated to helping our own communities and the children of the world -  as they are our future. Be a part of something bigger - something meaningful and relevant to making our community and this world we live in a better place.

Considerations of membership.

As a member, you must be of good character and community standing and reside in or have other community interest within the area of this club. As a member, you must also believe in and subscribe to the Objects of Kiwanis International - wherein you share the vision and objectives of the club and its membership. As an active member, you will be required to pay a membership induction fee of $75.00 (seventy-five dollars) and quarterly membership dues of $150.00 (one hundred fifty dollars) - which does include breakfast for the weekly Friday morning meetings.

Prospective members shall be considered for election to active membership by invitation only, or by transfer from an active Kiwanis club, under the following procedures:

·  Each proposal for membership shall be submitted by a member of this club to the Secretary or the Committee on Membership Growth and Education, which proposal shall bear the signature of the proposer and the endorsement of at least one (1) additional club member, both of whom shall be members in good standing.

·  All proposals shall be referred to the Board of Directors for consideration.

Meetings.

The Kiwanis of Flagler Sunrise meet every Friday morning at 7:30 am - at the Airport Hilton, 150 Australian Ave, West Palm Beach.

You will be met at the meeting room by a volunteer “greeter” - who will help you get acquainted with the members of the club. You will register your attendance as you enter the room on the sign-in sheet that will be provided at the door. Pick up your name badge from the badge case (remember all badges are to be returned to the badge case at the end of the meeting). The meeting and meal expenses are paid for in your dues - so you will not have to pay for them when you attend the meetings.

The breakfast service is “self serve” - drinks will be delivered to your table by the wait staff. Orange juice, cream, cream cheese, etc. are at your table.

The club President generally presides over the meeting, a typical agenda includes:

· Opening - striking of the bell to bring the meeting to order.

· Pledge of Allegiance followed by a patriotic song and an invocation (each is lead by a volunteer member)

· Greeting of Guests and Visitors - the House Committee Representative who, along with the greeter attend to the sign-in table and will announce the guests and visitors, or in alternative will ask a sponsor of a guest or visitor to introduce their guest or visitor.

· Happy Bucks - members donate “happy bucks” to the club and express their sentiments.

· Important Announcements - announcements are made by the President or the President may call on one or more members to make announcements.

· The Program - each week a guest speaker will bring a topic of general interest, community related services, education benefit, member interest or concern, current events, etc.

· 50 / 50 Drawing - each week there is a “split the pot” drawing - when members and guests arrive, they may purchase tickets for the drawing at $2. per ticket. A ticket is drawn by the guest speaker (or other guest) and the “winning-ticket” gets one-half of the cash in the “pot” with the balance of the cash going into the club’s administrative account for use in supporting club sponsored group activities, like the AKTION CLUB or the KEY CLUB at Suncoast High School.

· Adjournment - striking of the bell to conclude the meeting and dismiss the members.

Please try to be on time. Most members arrive by 7:15 a.m. or shortly thereafter, to give themselves time to eat and be ready for the meeting activities. Arriving early provides an opportunity to share in the fellowship our club is proud to provide. This is also important in getting the meeting started on time.

If you need to leave the meeting early for any reason, do not hesitate to do so. We would rather that you spend a little of your time with us than not be in attendance at all.

Attendance Requirements:

We encourage you to attend as many meetings as possible. Weekly meetings might seem to be a very big commitment of your time, however we have found that if you are like most of us, you will find yourself looking forward to the next meeting, the fellowship, the education from the guest speaker, and the next service project.  The club is measured on attendance and though the term "Perfect Attendance" may seem or sound like an impossibility, the reality is that “perfect attendance” really means continued participation. It means that your involvement and your relationship with Kiwanis is important. Enough so, that you help in a club service project, that you are interested enough in learning more about Kiwanis so that you attend another club's meeting either locally or wherever you might be visiting and it means that you and fellow members get together to see how another club operates by visiting friends in those clubs (inter-club meetings).

Attendance credit is given for:

· Attending a regular weekly meeting of any Kiwanis club.

· Attendance of a round table meeting of any club (generally a modified meeting called to provide the opportunity to meet when a regular meeting cannot be held, such as on a holiday).

· Attendance at a special Kiwanis club meeting or function (installation banquet, spouses night, charter night, annual banquet, etc.)

· Attendance at Kiwanis International meetings (or District functions that prevent attendance at your regular weekly meeting).

· A visit to the Kiwanis International Office in Indianapolis, Indiana or the Kiwanis International Regional Office in Switzerland.

· Attendance at a Kiwanis District or divisional meeting.

For each 2 hours of service performed for a qualified club service project.

Leave of Absence:
If you anticipate a long absence (extended vacation, work obligation, etc), you may apply for a leave of absence of up to six (6) months through the Club Secretary. Your club attendance record will be frozen. Dues and other obligations will remain active.

Resignation from Kiwanis:
A member may resign from this club provided that such member's indebtedness to the club has been paid. The resignation shall be submitted in writing to the Board of directors and shall become effective when accepted by the Board.

Responsibilities of Membership:
Complete an orientation program. This includes watching our Orientation video (15 minutes), attending a club board meeting and attending at least one interclub (attending another Club meeting with other Flagler Sunrise Kiwanians) per year. Board meetings are held monthly and any member, whether on the Board or not, is invited and encouraged to attend.

Attend meetings regularly, wear your Kiwanis pin and be sure to sign in. Invite your friends, colleagues, neighbors, relatives, phone solicitors, etc. as guests. The guest fee is $15, the Club pays this fee for any “prospective member” for the first visit.

Participate in club sponsored or supported community activities. Our Club tries to do at least one activity a month and also supports the Division activities which vary from year to year. The Club is also actively involved with our Key Club at Suncoast High School.

Pay dues on time. Currently this club’s dues are $150.00 per quarter (or $50 per month), which includes the charges for breakfast at the Pistache French Bistro. Please note that except for charter members, the Bylaws do not allow for inactive status which means the quarterly dues are assessed without regard to attendance.

Respect the Beliefs and Customs of Others.
